Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
Michael Pollan
I’m not here to tell you what and how much to eat, but I will say tuning into your body and understanding what it needs is really important. We are all so unique and a certain food may be beneficial to one person while it’s detrimental to another. Food should be something you enjoy and makes your body feel good, so really tune in and see how your body is feeling after a certain meal. Do you feel full, content, energized, alert, ready to go or do you feel sluggish, bloated, depleted, pains in your digestive system?
Coming from a middle class Pakistani family, the concept of wasting food was out of the question. You ate what was on your plate and would finish it. I now realize how horrible this was for my health, and I honestly still struggle with portion size and knowing when I’m full. But awareness is the first step to change and I’m still on a journey to understanding what foods are best for me and how much of them to eat.
You can do your own research on the benefits to your health and the environment when it comes to including more plants in your diet, but if you feel it’s not for you right now, that’s absolutely fine too! I think everyone inherently knows what’s right for them and once they pause and reflect, the answers will come.
